UPDATE 7/27/17
A few weeks ago we reached a verbal agreement with Westgate Professional Center, 2808 S 80th Ave, for Suite 100, and also had the support of a strong consensus of our membership. The process was delayed for a week or so when one of the landlords had second thoughts about the rate we had negotiated. He finally agreed to honor the original deal (probably persuaded that $540/mo is a lot better than the $0 they've gotten for the past 5 years or so), and it now looks like the deal is going through.
Yesterday four of our Intergroup officers signed a 5-year lease for the suite. We are now waiting for Westgate to sign and execute the lease. Move-in date (subject to the completion of some construction in the suite) is September 1st.
We have an Intergroup meeting scheduled for Aug 5th. By then we should, barring any other surprises, have a solid lease, and, hopefully, will have a better idea of when the space will be ready for us to move in.
We encourge everyone to attend the Aug 5th Intergroup meeting, especially anyone who wants a voice in the relocation process. We hope to get everyone's input on what furnishings to bring or discard (the new place is smaller, so we can't bring everything), personnel and vehicles (pickup trucks, anyone?) to actually facilitate the move, and any other considerations that may come up.
We are pretty excited, and feel that the new location will be beneficial to all, cleaner, safer, more inviting, more centrally located, a step forward for the next season of SLAA recovery in Omaha.
Further developments will be posted here (and on the chalkboard at 7016 Maple) as details become available.

The space is approximately 430 sq feet, consisting of 3 rooms roughly the size of our current rooms 1,2,&3
Parts of the rooms are unfinished, so before renting it they would finish walls and ceilings and paint and re-carpet. The building is well-lit, well-maintained, and overall much nicer than our current location. Bathrooms are in a the hall and are kept locked (we would get keys, which we would probably hang on hooks inside our suite for whoever needs to use them) |
The space has been offered to us for the same rent we are currently paying (but with annual increases of 2.5%)
We are negotiating to freeze the rent for 3-year stretches, and also to put in a sink (there is none inside the suite, but there is plumbing in the southwest wall)
All other tenants in the building are doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists, so we can expect quiet during the day (unlike the rock band, pentacostal church, and loud music of our current neighbors).
The tenant of the neighboring suite, a therapist, came over to meet us during our walk-thru. She was very friendly and welcoming. She is familiar with SLAA and was supportive of the idea of us inhabiting the space. She has been here for 5 years, and says the landlord does a good job of fixing things and keeping the place clean.
We plan to discuss this at the June 7th Intergroup Meeting - PLEASE ATTEND if you want a voice in the decision
I'll post additional details here as they become available.
Actual dimensions of the rooms are:
Room 1 (the first room as you enter the suite, upper right in the floorplan below): 10' 6" by 16'--168 sq. ft
Room 2 (lower right): 14' 6" by 10' 2"--146 sq. ft.
Room 3 (upper left): 12' by 8' 3"--99 sq. ft.
Plus the little area in the middle between the 3 rooms is roughly 15 sq ft.
